The Green Bay Packers needed a boost for their offense after losing Aaron Rodgers last week to a broken collarbone. In the first half of their game against the New Orleans Saints they got it from a rookie running back, the team’s banged up secondary and Rodgers’s replacement, Brett Hundley. The Packers lead, 14-7.
Filling in for Rodgers, Hundley started slow but has found a rhythm, capping a 75-yard drive with a 14-yard scramble for a touchdown and his first Lambeau Leap.
Aaron Jones was the standout player of the first quarter, racing for 69 yards on six carries, including a 46-yard touchdown. He accounted for all of the scoring in the first quarter, with Green Bay taking a 7-0 lead. Early in the second quarter, the Saints were able to tie things at 7-7 thanks to a 12-yard touchdown run by Mark Ingram.
Green Bay’s defense, which has dealt with injuries to its secondary in recent weeks, was able to back up Jones’ offensive effort by intercepting Drew Brees twice.
